This has been one of my favorite Christmas CDs since I picked it up several years ago. There is a nice mix of styles of music included, and a couple are true gems. The Cocteau Twins do a rendition of "Frosty the Snowman" which is incomparable to anything I've ever heard - and I mean to say it is superior to others, with a funky beat and a smooth yet cutting-edge sound. Another gem is Marlene Dietrich's "Little Drummer Boy" sung in her native German, which puts a unique twist on the tune with her sultry voice and cabaret sound. This is also one of few places to find the infamous and coveted Bing Crosby/David Bowie duet "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy." If you haven't yet heard this tune, you will be in for a treat. The two songs blend so well, and interestingly, the men's two voices work melodically together. Other tunes of note include Zero Mostel doing "If I Were a Rich Man" from the "Fiddler on the Roof" musical, Holly Cole's "2000 Miles," and "Santa Baby" by the original recorder of that song, Eartha Kitt. She nails it much better than Madonna did years later on "A Very Special Christmas."I would highly recommend this compilation, and it's not easy to come by.
